The extrusion system, comprising the hopper, screw, and barrel, is the core of the equipment. Plastic raw material enters the barrel from the hopper and is conveyed forward by the rotating screw, while the plastic is gradually melted by a heating device located outside the barrel. The screw design directly affects the plasticizing effect and production efficiency. Common screw types include gradual-change, sudden-change, and separation types, suitable for different plastic raw materials and process requirements. The drive system provides the power required for screw rotation and typically consists of a motor, reducer, and bearings, ensuring stable screw speed. The heating and cooling system precisely controls the barrel temperature, ensuring optimal plastic melting while preventing overheating and degradation.
Plastic extruders can be categorized as single-screw, twin-screw, and multi-screw extruders depending on their application. Single-screw extruders, with their simple structure and low cost, are suitable for processing most general-purpose plastics. Twin-screw extruders, with their enhanced mixing capacity, are often used for high-precision processes such as compounding, modification, filling, and compounding. Multi-screw extruders are primarily used for processing specialized polymer materials. Furthermore, modern extruders are often equipped with automated control systems, enabling precise adjustment of parameters such as temperature, pressure, and speed, improving production efficiency and product quality.
Plastic extruders play an important role in the construction, automotive, medical, and packaging industries. For example, PVC pipe extruders are used to produce water supply and drainage pipes, while blown film extruders are used to manufacture food packaging films. With increasing demands for environmental protection and energy conservation, efficient and energy-saving extrusion technologies are becoming an industry trend, driving plastic processing towards intelligent and precise processing.
